The focus of this class is to prepare experienced teachers to integrate technology with language arts instruction. During this week we will examine theory, research, and appropriate programs, materials, and technology in an effort to promote effective instruction in reading and writing with technology.We are looking forward to working with each of you this week. We understand that for some of you the expectations may look daunting, but remember we will be working through this together. Every day we will have time set aside to do the work for the portfolio and we will be there to help you, should you need it. On the first day of class you will be paired up and will be able to interact with your partner throughout the week. You will also have some opportunities to work in larger groups. You will never be entirely on your own.
We plan to keep you active and involved throughout this course. Don't expect to stay in one place for long. Time will be spent outside (weather permitting!) as we engage in conversations regarding the technology we are exploring. We have selected five articles that will be the basis for our discussions. Use the questions in the course syllabus to help you put together your responses to these articles as you prepare to discuss the ideas with our class.
Start to think through some of the units you have taught in the past that you would like to enhance. Bring these ideas, books, lessons, or units with you to class. You will be asked to create a graphic organizer on Wednesday. It only makes sense that you would want to apply this assignment to something you can use next year. Later in the week, you will be creating an integrated writing/technology lesson. Again, bring curriculum with you that you can work with. Finally, the major assignment is a literacy portfolio. Be thinking about the topics you can use when you go back to teaching in the fall. You will leave this class with a collection of integrated technology lessons that are ready to use for the benefit of your students.
